Jeff had to make a visit to California for work last month and I decided to take advantage of him already being out there and fly up for the weekend. So, I joined him in San Fransisco on Thursday to kick off our weekend. We spend out first night in Fisherman's Wharf. We ate at Buenavista - known for their Irish Coffee. Jeff loved it! After dinner, I wanted to head to the famous Ghirardelli Square. Wonderful chocolate and ice cream! We spent the rest of the night walking around and looking at Alcatraz.
The next morning, we woke up and headed to the wine country. Of course we had to travel across the Golden Gate Bridge - it was huge and there were so many people walking or biking across. I wanted to get out there and walk it too, but I couldn't talk Jeff into it.
The first winery we went to was Kunde Estates. It was beautiful! Estates means that they grow and bottle their wine all on the same property. The 5th generation Kunde was even at their tasting room while we were there. I am pretty sure he had just graduated high school and had to spend the summer there to learn the family business. Below is a picture of the vines and the little blooms. I thought they were so cute!
We went on their "cave" tour. The caves store the wine in the barrels as they age and get that great flavor.
There were lines and lines of barrels!
Check out the cut out of the ground - so many colors in the layers!
We spent the night in Sonoma and had dinner in the cute downtown area. So fun! The next morning we woke up to play golf. Jeff has recently talked me into joining him on the golf course. The only way I would willing get there, would be if I took golf lessons first because I do not like to play sports that I am not be good at!
Here is my lefty husband taking a swing...
And here I am trying to be a golfer - did I fool you?!?
After golf... what is left to do? Go visit more wineries! I think we might have been the first customers at the wineries both days... Nice!
Everywhere you look there are beautiful rows of vines!
At the Hess winery.
Their barrels...
This was at our favorite winery... we got to sit on this porch - in the shade, with the wind blowing... great wine...
And check out this view! If you are heading this way soon, you much check out Cuvaison Estate Wines!
On our way back to San Fransisco, we stopped by Muir Woods.
The Red Woods were huge!
Smile!
Jeff looks tiny in the base of this tree!
They were amazing to look at.
On our last day, we headed to the AT&T Park. The Giants were taking on the Oakland A's - it was a major battle against local teams. Everyone was sporting orange and green to cheer on their teams. The park backs up to the San Fransisco Bay and it is full of action with kayaks and boats everywhere! These guys caught a home run that went into the water!
Check out this floating deck - deck divided!
Look at all the boats!
Fro at the Park!
Our final night we stayed in Union Station in San Fransisco. It was totally different than Fisherman's Wharf! It was really crowded and full of action. Street performers and bummer also... check out this video of this band we found on the street - there were pretty good, but their lead dancer was awesome!
We had a total blast and I can't wait to make my way into the wine country again!

Such a nice vacation! I'd LOVE to out to wine country one day (even though I'm not a wine drinker...lol). Anyway, the pictures are beautiful! You and Jeff look great! I especially love the picture of the wine glass with the mountain/mesa in the background, and seeing the etching that's on the glass. Awesome!
How fun!! I love your pictures! You look like a pro golfer! Miss you!!
Hi Lindsay - Hope you're doing great!! We're actually headed to the wine country in a few weeks with another couple. We're staying in Sonoma and San Fran for a few days and making a day trip to Napa. Let me know if you have any other suggestions. Also, here's our blog if you want to follow it!
