On Thursday (April 16th), Jeff woke up at about 5:00 in the morning b/c his tummy was hurting. So, he stayed home from work and I dragged into work... I wasn't feeling well either and I lost my voice sometime that day and I just wanted to crawl into bed and sleep that evening. But, Jeff told me his stomach was still really hurting and so I told him he should get up b/c we should at lease go see what the PA at Redi Clinic had to say - and I am glad we did!
After Jeff told her his symptoms (pain around his belly button that moved over to his right side) and she pushed on his belly, she said she was pretty sure he has appendicitis and we should head to the ER that night. So, we headed up to Kingwood's ER - only to wait for a little over an hour and hear the lady say the hospital beds were full and they were only going to look at people who had chest pain. After hearing that and thinking where would Jeff want to be if he did have to have surgery, we headed downtown to the Methodist hospital. They were so much nicer and started working on Jeff right away. After they ran some tests, they knew it had to be removed and started getting him ready for surgery. At this point I was so tired and ready for some medicine for my throat - which I couldn't find anywhere in a freaking hospital (until 9*30 the next morning when the gift shop opened) - go figure!
Here is my sick boy while we were waiting to hear if he had to have surgery (but after some pain meds lol)!
They finally moved Jeff and I into a room at 2*30 a.m. and came to take him to surgery at 3*30 a.m. So, I got a couple of hours of sleep before they brought him back to the room at about 7 a.m. He was so sore and tired, but enjoyed having people wait on him!
We spent 2 LONG nights in the hospital before we were able to go home on Saturday. Jeff is now recovering but can't push, pull, or lift anything more than 10 pounds - including mowing, mopping, vacuuming, grocery lifting, etc. for 6 weeks! If I had not been there to hear the doctor say that, I would have thought Jeff was trying to pull a fast one and milk this thing for all it was worth!
Another big event was scheduled for the same weekend... the MS 150 ride. My dad has been training for months for this race and I am so proud of him! I was so crushed when I realized I would have to miss his big adventure, but of course I had to make sure my hubby was going to be alright.
Even though the first day in the history of the ride had to be cancelled, the riders did make it out for the Sunday trip. So, although we didn't get to see my dad ride in person, we did get to enjoy the pictures!
Here he is at the trailer...
Here is the whole Alvarez & Marsal group that he rode with.
Here he is at the starting line!
And here is a picture of my dad out on the 76+ mile ride!
Congrats to my dad and all of the other MS150 riders!
